S.O.S. (Soap Opera Survivor) Premise

For the first time ever, I’m doing a heavy-duty, formal outlining procedure for a book using K.M. Weiland’s Outlining your Novel Workbook. She’s got a great blog full of excellent writing advice, so I figured I’d take a look at what she had to say. I’m an outliner by nature anyway, but also a bit of a pantser. A hybrid, if you will. But I thought I’d try something new since it’s my least comfortable genre: contemporary romance. So, after chapter one’s exercises, I have officially come up with my “Premise Summary” … which means a dust-cover blurb in layman’s terms. At least a first draft of it. Here goes …

Mild-mannered Milo has let his crazy crush Jill drag him into adventures for a long time now because it’s a welcome break from his studying for his pharmacy major. But when her latest whim lands them both on a reality show,  Milo’s quiet, predictable future is at stake. If he wins, he’ll have to take on the public life of a soap opera actor. If he loses, Jill will be off on her own star-studded adventure and he might never see her again. He’s going to have to step way out of his comfort zone to find a win-win solution that includes his true love!
